Ok, I'm making a new years resolution to update a little more frequently. Alex is doing great. Growing like a weed and doing something a little cuter each day. I'm convinced she's a genius. Today we went to see Santa. She was so excited. She sat on his lap and told him she wanted a bike and shoes (totally unprompted). She was so sweet. I thought for sure she'd get scared and refuse to sit in his lap but she did great.

She's really into Dora right now. Now that we finally have cable and dvr I can record them. She would watch her for hours on end if I let her.

She now can identify and name all of her colors, with a few mix ups now and then. I think her average sentence length is about 7 words--she's a chatty one. She's really taken to asking 'why' all of the time and we're starting to be able to have real conversations.

She loves to dance, listen to music, color, and play with her babies. I think it's time for a baby sister or brother but daddy tends to disagree. We'll see.

We'll be really busy the next few weeks with the holidays but I'll try to update and post pics when I can.

On a side note. We went to the doctor the other day because she seemed to be bothered by her right ear. She has never had an ear infection but when we went to the doctor they found a polyp in the canal of her right ear. Apparently it's nothing to be alarmed about but being the 'speech and hearing expert' I'm a little concerned about anything having to do with her little ears. I made an appointment for her to see and ENT in Dayton next week so hopefully we'll have some answers. I also bought my own otoscope to look in her ears, it just came in the mail today so when she wakes up from her nap I'll have to take a look myself.

I'm so excited for my little princess. She's potty training-well actually we like to say as parents we are potty training because we basically sit her on the potty on a schedule. Just a little bit ago, she was playing with a toy in the living room while I was checking my email. She started to say "mommy potty, mommy potty". I said, "you have to go potty?". She said 'mm hmm'. She ran to the potty, sat down and peed. She gets so proud of herself and says "i did", "can I dump it?". I can't believe how she's growing up right in front of our eyes. Man, we may be done buying diapers by her 2nd birthday, who'd have thought?

Judy:  Wow, she is doing really well on that potty training. They do grow up so.... fast. Judy

I can't believe I've ignored any updates since April...so much has happened since then. Alex has entered the terrible twos--some nights I wonder how anyone has more than one child if they make it to this stage first. But at the same time she's adorable and amazing. She's speaking in 3-5 word sentences, it's crazy what she comes up with. She knows ALL of her body parts, every common animal and the sound that they make, she's learning the color orange and the circle shape.
She still loves Elmo, but thank god she's also taken a liking to curious george...he's much more tolerable.
She's sleeping in her big girl bed, with a little help and a lot of fight going to sleep. And get this...she's potty training. She is wearing big girl panties all day, has an occassional accident, and wears diapers to bed. She tells us when she has to potty about 75% of the time. We even went to the fair last night and she stayed dry and used the public restroom twice. She's such a big girl, I can't believe how much she's grown up.
Her sitter just had a baby so we took the opportunity to put her in 'school'. She goes to an academic based day care in Dayton. Since it's so close to Daddy's work, he takes her and picks her up--a much needed break for mommy and some extra bonding time for daddy. She seems to love it, the teachers love her and can't believe how young she is compared to how much she knows and how well she follows directions. They've gone as far to say she's perfect...but I'm suspicious they've got her mixed up with someone else.
We just love her kisses, hugs, playful personality, her quirkiness, and even her attitude. She's just the best thing that's ever happened to us--i just wish she'd grow up a little slower. I'll post pictures soon...if you haven't seen her lately, you won't believe how much she's changed.

    19 months

I'm not very good at updating this. Alex is actually more like 19 1/2 months and doing great. I have so much to say. She's beautiful and brilliant, of course I'm a little bias. We took our annual vacation to Georgia/Florida to see the grandparents and had a wonderful time-we really didn't want to leave. Aside from her nose boo-boo, Alex did pretty good (and so did Bettis). We spent a lot of time on the beach, going out to eat, playing outside, shopping etc... By the end of the week Alex didn't care for going out to eat and would cry as soon as she saw a wooden high chair so that got a little tricky!

About two weeks before we left for vacation, Alex climbed out of her crib. Jason immediately turned it into a toddler bed, which she refuses to sleep in. Now she's in a play pen beside her big girl bed. She actually fell out of the crib and we're very lucky she didn't get hurt.

She learns something new everyday. Her speech is getting pretty good and she'll repeat almost everything. She's consistently putting 2-3 words together now. The cutest is "I got it"-she uses this anytime she drops something or finds something under the couch. Another favorite word is 'no' but I think that comes with the territory.

She is loving Spring and is constantly asking to go 'ou ide'. Coming back in is a chore and causes a lot of tantrums but who can blame her after being cooped up during an Ohio winter. Speaking of outside, Alex got a new swing set this past weekend. I'm actually jealous--they didn't make them like this when we were kids. It a swingset/slide/treehouse combination. Daddy's going to get her her own golf clubs as she's always watching him swing his and now picks up anything that even slightly resembles a club (i.e. stick) and really concentrates to perfect her swing.

She's more fun everyday but growing up to quick. Many days I just stare at her and think 'where has my baby gone?'

Alex is almost 18 months and I just can't believe it. That's a year and a half! She is growing into such a toddler. I'm amazed everyday by her ever expanding language skills, physical skills and her gosh darn cuteness. Here is a list of words she says: dog, meow (cat), horse, moo, fish, duck, turtle, snow, brrr (we use that one alot right now), out, up, open, yuck, no, yes, hat, eye, nose, ear, elmo (another favorite), more, house, home, daddy, mommy, papa, mamaw, shoes (ooosh), ball, baby, baba, juice, cookie bubble, boat, bath. She's starting to put some two words together. When we let the water out of the tub she'll say bye, bye bubble. The other night while we were waiting for Jason to get home she clearly said 'Where's daddy?'. This week she started to say the 'k' sound really well. She's still using signs as well and now knows bird, rhino, monkey, penguin, lion, giraffe, thank you, water, milk, open, hat, all gone/all done, cold, fish, and please. She can jump off of two feet, climb up onto the couch, brush her teeth, scribble with a crayon, stack blocks, and do a shape sorter.
She's growing up way to fast but it's so much fun. She's starting to do more pretend play and likes to feed her dolls and wrap them in blanket.
She's the best kisser and loves to pass out kisses before she goes to bed.
Her new found love is Elmo's World on Tv-it's bordering on an addiction. She won't watch anything else on TV but could watch 'melmo' for hours on end. She also loves to dance with mommy and daddy in the kitchen to her Jack Johnson CD.
She still takes a pacifier and has to have her blankie but only for bedtime/naps and car rides.
She eats like a pig-her Grandma and Grandpa K can tell you that. I think her favorite food right now is grapes and peanut butter toast. She'll try anything but seems to be getting a little pickier, especially with vegetables and meat. She can feed herself with a fork and spoon-still pretty messy though. I think I've covered everything-I'm leaving out the development of her temper :). We go to the doctor on the 16th so we'll have a new height and weight then. I'll try to post updated pictures and videos soon.

Well, Alex's 2nd Christmas has come and gone. She had a great time! Grandma Becky and Papa Lou came up to visit and we had a christmas eve party at our house. It was a packed house with all the toys and gifts. Alex enjoyed getting new things but was pretty content to let maddie and tom open her gifts. We had ham and lots of other goodies. On Christmas Day we went to Grandma Kantner's and opened lots of presents. Again, we ate a lot of really good food and fun was had by all. By the end, Alex was pooped. We've enjoyed the week with the grandparents and Alex has learned to say both papa and grandma...She just loves them both to pieces. They even got to babysit her the two days mom had to go to work. Some of her favorite gifts were her little people circus and doll house, her jack johnson CD from aunt renee, her new boots, all of her new books, but her most favorite seems to be her princess couch from Daddy! We're going to have to rent a storage unit for all of these toys.
But the fun is over as now, 5 days after Christmas, both Alex and Grandma Becky have the flu. Alex threw up almost everything she ate all day today! She seems to be feeling a little better but for a better part of the day all she wanted was to be in mommy's arms! Hopefully this will pass without all of us catching it-as there is only one bathroom at the Kantner house :)

I hate to do an update so soon after my last one but I'm so excited. Alex has really increased her vocabulary...She now uses these words: hat, duck, turtle, boat, no, hot, nose, eye, night-night, da, mom (sometimes), bath (kind of), dog, cat, cheese, shoes, and mine. I'm a speech therapist and think of myself as quite knowledgable in the area of language development but I have just been floored by her ever-growing vocabulary. She knows the signs for a lot of the words above too. Even crazier she knows probably 10x as many words, meaning she can recognize them when we say them. It's so cute, if she has pooped and I say "Alex, you're stinky", she wrinkles up her nose and sniffles--how cute is that???

    15 1/2 Months

As always, I'm late with an update. At her 15 month checkup, Alex weighed 20lbs, 4oz. She still only in the 15th percentile, but she's gaining well. Right now she is like a sponge, it's like she learns something new everyday. She's running, trying to jump, feeding herself (although messy) with a spoon, drinking from a regular cup, broke from the bottle :), still highly attached to her binky and blankie (those will be going to college with her). She knows and uses about 10-15 signs, says about 10 meaningful words (mama, dada, night-night, uhoh, hat, boat, mine, no) and will attempt to repeat a ton more. She's been a really good sleeper (except when we go to grandma kantners)she loves to play outside, and reading books is her all time favorite activity. It is so cute how she'll pick a book and walk over to me, hand me the book and then pat me on the lap because she wants to sit down with me. She'll look at books with mommy or daddy for 20-30 minutes. She's always learning to recognize familiar pictures in books by pointing to them.
Right now she LOVES Santa (from a distance). Anytime she's sees him she says 'ho ho ho' whether it's on tv, in a book, or as a yard ornament. She's been so good about not messing with the christmas trees, I thought that was going to be a nightmare. I think she's really going to enjoy the holidays. Although she's still to young to 'get' it, she loves the lights, the tv shows (especially polar express), and of couse santa.
Today we're going to try to get her picture taken with Santa, this ought to be fun! I'll try to do better with updates.

    14 MONTHS

In two days, Alex will be 14 months. She took her first airplane trip this past weekend. Yep, crazy mommy decided to venture to GA with a fiercly indpendent one year old. It was a quick trip, we went to visit grandma and grandpa for grandma's birthday. Alex was o.k. on the plane ride-I realize it's tough for someone her age. She had a blast and GA and absolutely loved to see her grandma, grandpa, aunt renee and soon to be uncle jim. I'm so glad they got to see her walk...and boy did she show off.
It seems like she's learning something new every day. She now is a true walker...i can't remember the last time i saw her crawl. She still falls a lot but rarely gets hurt. She only takes one bottle a day (first thing in the morning) and I think she'll break that soon. We didn't even have to break her from the bottle, she did it on her own. She's jabbering a lot more and now says "touchdown" (well, something that resembles the word) and puts her hands in the air. She has a new found love for dancing and screams and spins to the music. She will imitate almost every sign we try to teach her, her newest one is 'eat' and 'shhh'. She is just so darned cute!!!! We are having the time of our lives with her and love watching her learn and grow everyday! In my opinion, she is the smartest and cutest baby that I've ever met :)

    13 MONTHS

Alex took her first real steps last night. She's getting really good at cruising along everything and barely holds on. Last night, we were all hanging out in the living room and she was walking all along the couch back and forth. When I say walking, I guess I mean running because she's awfully fast. Well, she let go and took 3-4 steps!! We got so excited and were cheering and clapping and that made her excited so she kept trying it. She took a few more steps from time to time and then tuckered out. Won't be long till we have a full fledged walker on our hands!
Other than that, 13 months has not brought much new. It seems likes she's developing right on target as my true due date (when her 1st bday would have been) is next week.
We're trying to decide on a halloween costume-looks like she may be walking for trick-or-treat so we'll have to keep that in mind.
